The Captain
My name is Joe Schaumburg and I’m the guide/boat captain for Good Time Charlie Sportfishing. I have a US Coast Guard Master’s credential and an Oregon guides license. We are bonded and insured.
I’m entering my fifth year of running Good Time Charlie Sportfishing and every year has been better than the last so far! I’ve spent my entire life on the water, not only fishing, but kayaking, snorkeling, racing sailboats, and more. I’ve fished all over the West Coast for numerous species and enjoy the challenge of the hunt and especially the table fare of fresh caught seafood. One of my recent fishing highlights was catching a striped marlin with a couple good buddies while albacore fishing off the Oregon Coast in the summer of 2025!
It’s my goal to provide a memorable experience in the ocean that is safe and fun. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing what I know about the ocean and catching fish off the coast. I’m comfortable with people of all ages, backgrounds and fishing skill levels. I enjoy both sharing what I know and learning new things from others. One of my favorite parts of taking people out into the ocean is seeing them land their first salmon, halibut, or whatever kind of fish we’re chasing. Even better is taking someone out on the ocean for the first time and introducing them to the majesty of the Pacific! I always hope that someone’s first experience on the ocean or first experience catching fish on the ocean will lead to a lifetime appreciation of the ocean and ocean fishing.
While I never promise we will catch fish, I will work hard to get you on the fish and make sure you have a great time. I always tell the crew every morning in our safety briefing, “We have three goals today. Number one is out and back across the bar safely. That is the main reason you pay an experienced captain. Number two, enjoy the boat ride; til we put a fish on the deck, its just a boat road so enjoy it! Keep your head up and look around and you will see some amazing things…I’m not sure what we’ll see today but we will see something cool for sure! And goal number three is to catch fish. If we accomplish all three, we’ve had a great day on the ocean!”
I look forward to meeting you and having the opportunity to take you out on the water.
