Lingcod/Rockfish Trip Information
We run our half-day lingcod/rockfish trips year-round as weather permits. Half-day Lingcod/Rockfish trips are a great way to get out on the water and we’re usually back to the dock by lunchtime with a bag full of excellent table fare. Our half-day Lingcod/Rockfish trips are nearshore trips which are closer to the harbor and usually within sight of land.
Rather than targeting rockfish and then looking for lingcod after we catch our rockfish, we setup on prime lingcod areas and target lingcod throughout the whole trip. We catch our rockfish as bycatch while chasing lingcod. We’ve found that this provides the best chance to catch more lingcod and we usually catch a better grade of rockfish as well. In addition to lingcod and rockfish we also catch cabezon (which were allowed to keep after July 1st) and sometimes we get really lucky and score a nearshore halibut.
In addition to excellent fishing, we often see lots of sea life; frequently we fish nearby gray whales, sea lions, porpoises, etc. We also have had some incredible jellyfish shows and even see sunfish from time to time.
These are great trips for people who are new to ocean fishing since they are shorter in duration and closer to shore. We take lots of families out on our half-day Lingcod/Rockfish trips, including small children. Please give us a call to discuss customizing a family trip if you have small children! In addition to families, many groups include these trips as part of weekend birthday parties, bachelor parties, etc. on getaways to the Oregon Coast. We’re usually able to get out there, have some fun, catch some fish, and have people back to shore without spending the whole day on the water and everyone being completely exhausted.
Our full-day (8 hour) lingcod/rockfish trips allow us to travel further from the harbor and fish areas that we aren’t able to on half-day lingcod/rockfish trips. On these trips we will travel up to 15-20 miles from the harbor and target areas with less pressure, often larger lingcod, and a wider variety of rockfish.
Crabbing can be added to either half-day or full-day lingcod/rockfish trips for $35 per person.
