Salmon Trip Information
Our salmon fishing trips are one of our favorites. We begin running our salmon trip around Independence Day weekend, sometimes a little earlier. We will travel up to 15 miles offshore, but often the fish are much closer. We look for current breaks, slicks, and birds working the surface to find fish and then set our gear in “fishy” looking water and start trolling. Usually, the fish are close to the surface bite aggressively once we find them.
Our salmon trips target coho (silver) salmon but often we catch chinook (kings) mixed in with the coho. Coho are acrobatic fighters and make excellent table fare. Salmon trips are great family trips because were always on the move, the action can be really exciting, and kids can reel them in too (sometimes with a little help from mom or dad!).
Summer coho season (the “mark-selective” or “fin-clipped” fishery) usually opens in mid-June but we start fishing for them around 4th of July weekend (maybe a little earlier if reports of good fish are coming in). This fishery runs until the quota is reached, usually sometime in early August. Chinook seasons have been more limited recently so we base our salmon trips on the coho seasons, however, we are certainly keen to catch chinook when chinook are legal to keep.
There is another coho season that usually opens September 1 and runs until the quota is reached, sometimes only lasting 7-10 days if fishing is hot! This season is called the “Non-Mark Selective” season and allows all salmon (coho and chinook) to be kept. This can be an excellent time to target salmon as the fish are larger and any salmon can be kept.
We are currently booking salmon trips for the 2026 season. While 2026 salmon seasons haven’t been finalized yet, we’re confident that the dates will be similar enough that we are booking trips for the upcoming season. If you book dates that end up being unavailable we will work with you to find another date or refund your deposit.
